#Trust November 25
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
One of my mentors was the late Dr. Ray Pennington who was the Director of Athletics at UNC Pembroke from 1984-1998 he taught me many things including the importance of TRUST.
Dick Christy the current Director of Athletics at UNC Pembroke shared with me a fabulous video last week on the qualities that go into become selected as a Navy Seal. One of those qualities was TRUST.
Below is a photo I cherish being with two leaders who understand TRUST.
Today I will have the privilege to speak to the UNC Pembroke Athletic Department on a number of leadership related topics. Weaved into all of them will be the importance of TRUST.
Patrick Lencioni in his book “The Five Dysfunctions of Teams” list the Absence of TRUST as the first dysfunction.
John Maxwell in his book “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership” includes Law 6 “The Law of Solid Ground: TRUST Is the Foundation of Leadership”
The video Dick sent me is by Simon Sinek and it is a powerful message to all leaders about TRUST. Take 2 minutes and watch it.
What is scarce in the world today is TRUST. People are looking for companies to TRUST. People are looking for leaders to TRUST. Looking for products to TRUST. Looking for a church they can TRUST. Looking for a job or career they can TRUST.
When something is hard to find people gravitate towards it. If you become a leader others can TRUST you will always have value. The most important person to TRUST is yourself. Keep you promises to yourself. When you do that you are on your way to earning the TRUST of others.
I love the quote from Seth Godin found below:
“Earn TRUST, earn TRUST, earn TRUST. Then you can worry about the rest”
