In June 2025, many of us are taking part in the 30-Day “On This Date” Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, the challenge encourages participants to engage in a meaningful or enjoyable activity inspired by a historical event, anniversary, or personal memory tied to that specific date. My anniversary event has to do with TRAVEL.

Over the past 150 years travel time in the United States has dramatically increased. Just think if you wanted to make a trip after the Civil War across country you were utilizing a covered wagon that would take months.

On This Date-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to think about the history of each day in June.

  1. Record something about what happened on this date. It can be an event, memory, or anniversary.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

June 4-Travel

June 4, 1876 travel in the United States was greatly impacted when the Transcontinental Express arrived in San Franscico after leaving New York City. It was a train ride designed as a promotion or publicity stunt to impact the way people perceived travel.

When the United States was declaring its Independence from England in 1776 it would take Thomas Jefferson 10 days to travel the 200 plus miles from Monticello to Philadelphia. The Oregon Trail would take people 6 months to go from Missouri to Oregon

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
