#SongLyricSunday – Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel – May 9

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

This week our host Jim Adams for Song Lyric Sunday has given us the prompt of Heaven/Hell.

Take some time to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this music challenge, and even better, read as many of them as you are able to as you will probably find many enjoyable songs and it is quite possibly that you will learn a thing or two. Also feel free to offer up your suggestion to this week’s prompt.

Here are the “rules”:
• Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it contains the prompt words or not.  If it does not meet the criteria, then please explain why you chose this song.
• Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.  Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be.
• Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
• Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
• Ping back to this post or place your link in the comments section below.
• Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
• Feel free to suggest future prompts.
• Have fun and enjoy the music.

Song Lyric Sunday doesn’t have many disco songs offered up but I am going back to the 1970’s for my choice this week. My song is “Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel” by Tavares. The song was part of their 1976 album called “Sky High”. Many people might be familiar with Tavares fort their song “More Than a Woman”. It was specifically written for Tavares by the Bee Gees and was issued as a single from the 11-million-selling Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.

Tavares was started as a five-brother singing group. They had a number of hits including “Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel,” “More Than a Woman,” and “Whodunit,” but they first came to national attention in 1973 with their ballad “Check It Out.”

The Tavares brothers — Arthur TavaresRalph Vierra Tavares, Perry Lee Tavares, Antone Tavares, and Feliciano Tavares nicknamed “Pooch,” “Tiny,” “Chubby,” and “Butch” — started the group in 1964 as Chubby and the Turnpikes in New Bedford, MA.

Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel was written by Freddie Perrin and Kent St. Lewis. Perrin wrote a number of hit songs for the Jackson Five. Some of those hits included “ABC” and “The Love You Save”.

Here are the lyrics to “Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel”

I encourage you to find your leisure suit, get under a disco ball, and crank up the volume on the video below.

For those of us old enough to have lived during the Disco Age the music gave us some heavenly memories.

Next week the prompt is Elevator music.
