Today for the 30-Day Movie Coach4aday Challenge I watched a movie on a Philadelphia icon named ROCKY.

After watching the Eagles take apart the NY Giants 38-7 on Saturday night, I have surmised that the theme to the film “Rocky” will be aired quite often this week.

When the film came out in 1976, I was a graduate assistant basketball coach at East Carolina University that received a perk of free movie tickets from a basketball fan of the university. “Rocky” had a sports theme, so I was intrigued. Of course, almost everyone knows of the fairytale plot where a challenger Rocky Balboa defeats the world champion Apollo Creed in the sport of boxing. The cast includes Sly Stallone and Burgess Meredith. If searching for a movie with memorable quotes this film has it.

Quotes from Rocky

“[life] it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward”

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.”

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
