In October 2025, many of us will be taking part in the 30-Day Kitchen Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will spotlight an appliance, utensil, or gadget found in a commercial or residential kitchen. The tools and devices used to prepare and cook food is quite extensive and this month we will take a look at both the sublime and ridiculous. My post today is focused on PYREX glassware.

If you have a rectangular roaster made out of glass you may call it Pyrek Dish. That brand name is part of the many products made by Corning Glass Company. Last month I had the opportunity to travel to Corning NY the company headquarters. While there I toured the Corning Museum of Glass and highly recommend if you are ever in the area to do the same. Photo below is of the gift shop.

A Pyrex dish is a type of heat-resistant glass cookware made by Corning, designed to withstand high oven temperatures without cracking. It’s commonly used for baking casseroles, roasting meats, or storing leftovers because it can go from oven to table to refrigerator. Pyrex dishes are also nonporous, meaning they don’t absorb food odors or stains, making them durable and easy to clean.

Here is one of many we have in our kitchen.

Kitchen-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about an appliance, utensil, or gadget found in a Kitchen during the month of October

  1. Record something about an item found in a Kitchen. Make sure you include a description and its purpose. Try, if possible, to include a photo.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

Corning makes two distinct popular products for cooking.

First there is Corning Ware is made from a special glass-ceramic material (originally called Pyroceram) that can withstand rapid temperature changes, making it ideal for stovetop use, baking, and serving.

Pyrex, on the other hand, is made from borosilicate or tempered glass designed primarily for oven baking and food storage—it can handle high heat but is not meant for direct stovetop cooking. In short, Corning Ware is better for versatility across heat sources, while Pyrex excels in baking and transparency.

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
