In July 2025, many of us are taking part in the 30-Day “Tool” Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, the challenge encourages participants to share a tool that can help people with productivity, organization, and communication. Tools are essential in many occupations and hobbies. Today my choice is going be PLOWSHARE.

I have always had a pretty good idea of what this tool is, but I have never validated my perception. The word plowshare would come at me often from two sources the Bible and a song by the Eagles. In Isiah 2:4 it is referenced in turning swords into plowshares and then Don Henley turns that phase around in his song “The End of the Innocence

Tool-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about a tool in July.

  1. Record something about a particular tool. It can be physical or digital. It may also be something that has been replaced with advanced technology.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

July 2-Plowshare

When we examine this tool, we may not be impressed but it did help world civilization. The plowshare, the cutting blade of a plow, revolutionized agriculture by allowing farmers to turn and aerate soil more efficiently, increasing crop yields. Its development enabled societies to cultivate larger areas of land, supporting population growth and the rise of settled communities.

Here is a short video about its importance.

To close out the post here is Don Henley’s song that mentions plowshare in the second verse.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
