May 2026 the 30-Day Coach4aday Challenge will feature travel pictures. It is a simple daily activity of posting a photo of a place that you have traveled to or a location you plan to visit. Today it is the sights my wife and I saw on a run from Portsmouth to NEW CASTLE NH in 2012.

This month marks the 77th consecutive month that friends Jeff Neelon and Jaclyn Donovan have taken on some sort of challenge. For May 2026 participants simply commit to taking or sharing one travel-themed photo each day for 30 days. Each photo just needs to be accompanied by a simple descriptor. Hope you decide to join the 30-Day Travel Pics Coach4aday Challenge.
Day 22-New Castle NH
Back in 2012 my wife and I were invited to a wedding in Maine. We left North Carolina and flew to Boston where we rented a car and drove to Augusta ME. On our way there we spent a night in Portsmouth NH. Before heading out the next day we went for a jog along Highway 1B from Portsmouth to New Castle NH on a foggy morning. That run took us by some tranquil scenes including a view across the Piscataqua River looking at the eerie Portsmouth Naval Prison which is located in Kittery, Maine.
Not everything we ran past was as unsettling as the prison in fact it was very tranquil. That short run gave lots of glimpses into life in New England. Once we crossed the bridge into New Castle what we experienced were narrow winding roads, weathered colonial homes, and docks with fish traps. We also marveled at the New Castle Post Office.
Below are some photos.
