#Neighborhood January 30
For January 2025, several of us are taking part in the 30-Day Song Lyrics Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we utilize a theme and post the song lyrics from a song that connects the two. Today my theme is on a neighborhood, and my song is MIDNIGHT IN HARLEM.

My song today Midnight in Harlem was written by Derek Trucks and Mike Mattison who are members of the Tedeschi Trucks Band. On this song lead vocals come from Susan Tedeschi who is the wife of Derek Trucks.
Midnight in Harlem was included on the Tedeschi Trucks Band debut album Revelator released in 2011. The song is a story of self-discovery using the background of Harlem.

This song has always tapped into my emotions because the bluesy gospel singing style of Susan Tedeschi. Pairing her husband’s slide guitar and her voice works for me. The cherry on top of this musical sundae is the sound of the Hammond Organ. Ending the month with one of my favorite tunes.
Lyrics
Well, I came to the city
I was running from the past
My heart was bleeding
And it hurt my bones to laugh
Stayed in the city
No exception to the rules, to the rule
He was born to love me
I was raised to be his fool, oh, his fool
Walk that line
(Torn apart) Torn apart
Gotta spend your whole life trying
(Ride that train) Ride that train
(Free your heart) And free your heart
It’s midnight up in Harlem
I went down to the river
And I took a look around
There were old man’s shoes
There were needles on the ground
No more mysteries, baby
No more secrets, no more clues
The stars are out there
You can almost see the moon
The streets are windy
And the subway’s closing down
Gonna carry this dream
To the other side of town
Walk that line
(Torn apart) Torn apart
Gotta spend your whole life trying
(Ride that train) Ride that train
(Free your heart) And free your heart
It’s midnight up in Harlem
