For January 2025, several of us are taking part in the 30-Day Song Lyrics Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we utilize a theme and post the song lyrics from a song that connects the two. Today my theme is on the MISSISSIPPI River and the song is Louisiana Woman-Mississippi Man.

Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty did a lot of country music duets together. Their first song that went to #1 was called “After the Fire is Gone” but it was their 3rd hit released in 1973 “Louisiana Woman-Mississippi Man” that many critics believe was their best.

The song was written by a pair of Nashville songwriters named Becki Bluefield and Jim Owen.

Two lovers each living on the other side of the Mississippi River in Louisiana and Mississippi is the theme of the song. They make a vow that the river will not keep them apart. Cajun music supports their vocals on the song. It remained #1 on the charts for 13 weeks in 1973. Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood have covered the song recently.
