For the month of September 2024 several of us are going to take on the 30-Day Periodic Elements Coach4aday Challenge. The concept is to show the symbol of one of the 118 elements and give a few facts about it. Today I have chosen Mg.

Mg is the symbol for Magnesium.

Here are three facts about Magnesium.

Essential for Human Health: Magnesium is a vital mineral for the human body. It plays a key role in over 300 biochemical reactions, including muscle and nerve function, energy production, and maintaining strong bones. It also helps regulate blood pressure and supports a healthy immune system.

Light and Strong Metal: Magnesium is one of the lightest structural metals, making it useful in applications requiring strength but low weight. It is often used in aerospace, automotive, and electronics industries to make parts like aircraft components, car wheels, and laptop casings, where durability and light weight are critical.

Burns Brightly: Magnesium is known for its brilliant white light when it burns. This property makes it valuable in pyrotechnics, fireworks, and flares. Magnesium’s bright, intense flame is also used in emergency signaling and photography flashbulbs. However, its flammability makes it tricky to handle in certain environments.

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
