This February 2025, several of us are participating in the 30-Day Philosophy Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, we choose a quote or concept from a philosopher, past or present, and share it with others. Participating in this activity is actually sharing wisdom with others. My philosopher choice today is KARL MARX.

This was a philosopher I was avoiding. Truthfully when I thought of Karl Marx or his theory of Marxism it was negative. Those emotions were not coupled with complete knowledge of what it actually is. I associated Marxism and Communism which are ideals that the US is opposed to. Some research has led me to believe that those two are not quite the same.
Simply put what Karl Marx believed in was a philosophy, but communism is a form of government that does adopt some principles of Marxism but not all. One difference is Marxism believed the workers owned the production where Communism states production is the governments. There is no denying the two are connected but not exactly the same.
Philosophy 30-Day Challenge Guidelines
Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines
- Identify your choice of philosopher, and, if necessary, offer up a brief bio on that individual.
- If you need help here is a link to some famous philosophers
- Provide the quote or concept that is attributed to this philosopher.
- If sharing with others use the #Coach4adayChallenge
February 19th Philosopher–Karl Marx
Karl Marx’s two most influential works are:
- The Communist Manifesto (1848) – Co-authored with Friedrich Engels, this political pamphlet outlines the principles of communism, the struggle between the bourgeoisie and proletariat, and the call for workers to unite and overthrow capitalist systems.
- Das Kapital (1867–1894) – A multi-volume critique of capitalism, Das Kapital analyzes how capitalist economies function, exposing concepts like surplus value, exploitation, and economic cycles, laying the foundation for Marxist economics.
From Goodreads I gathered a quote.
“Surround yourself with people who make you happy. People who make you laugh, who help you when you’re in need. People who genuinely care. They are the ones worth keeping in your life. Everyone else is just passing through.” Karl Marx
