May 2026 the 30-Day Coach4aday Challenge will feature travel pictures. It is a simple daily activity of posting a photo of a place that you have traveled to or a location you plan to visit. Today it is the view of MAGGIE VALLEY located in Haywood County NC.

This month marks the 77th consecutive month that friends Jeff Neelon and Jaclyn Donovan have taken on some sort of challenge. For May 2026 participants simply commit to taking or sharing one travel-themed photo each day for 30 days. Each photo just needs to be accompanied by a simple descriptor. Hope you decide to join the 30-Day Travel Pics Coach4aday Challenge.
Day 12-Maggie Valley
John Wooden, the legendary basketball coach at University of California, Los Angeles, once shared a quote about the coaching profession that captured his appreciation for the people involved: “Where else can you meet such splendid people?” That certainly applied to me especially in developing a friendship with Rick and Sherry Miller. The connection started in 1980 when we were both assistant coaches at Western Carolina University.
Rick retired from coaching in 1983 and went on to have a successful business career in South Florida. His love of the NC Mountains never ended, and he eventually purchased a home on the top of a mountain overlooking Maggie Valley NC.
My wife and I got to visit them often at their mountain retreat and the view from their deck were awe inspiring. My favorite one is depicted below which I took in September 2020.
