In June 2025, many of us are taking part in the 30-Day “On This Date” Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, the challenge encourages participants to engage in a meaningful or enjoyable activity inspired by a historical event, anniversary, or personal memory tied to that specific date. My post today is a tribute on the good work the KATE B REYNOLDS Trust performs in North Carolina.

Founded in 1947, the Kate B Reynolds Trust—based in Winston‑Salem—manages an endowment valued in the high hundreds of millions, making it one of North Carolina’s largest philanthropic foundations. It made its first grant on June 11, 1947

On This Date-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to think about the history of each day in June.

  1. Record something about what happened on this date. It can be an event, memory, or anniversary.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

June 11-Kate B Reynolds

On June 11, 1947, the Kate B. Reynolds Trust made its first grant of $16,000 for visiting home nurses to the Community Nursing Service, with a goal of improving maternal and infant care. The organization provided in-home care for “poor and needy” white and Black residents of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. Through this first charitable grant, five nurses made as many as 450 visits per month in those early years.

The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust currently has more than $600 million in assets. They award approximately $20 million in grants annually to improve the health and quality of life of residents in Forsyth County and around the state.

In 2022 Robeson County benefited with a $630,000 grant received by RCC&CC.

In 2018 UNC Pembroke Thomas Entreprenurial Hub received a $198,000 grant.
