In October 2025, many of us will be taking part in the 30-Day Kitchen Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will spotlight an appliance, utensil, or gadget found in a commercial or residential kitchen. The tools and devices used to prepare and cook food is quite extensive and this month we will take a look at both the sublime and ridiculous. My post today is focused on an INFRARED THEROMETER.

Each year at the Kiwanis of Robeson Lumberton Pancake Festival I see Tim Little a fellow Kiwanian use an Infrared Thermometer to help check the surface temp of the griddles to assist with cooking of pancakes & sausage. I asked about it and purchased one for myself when I am deep frying turkey each November.

The model I choose was Kizen LaserPro LP 300 that has a range of reading temps from -58F to 1112F. Hopefully I will never encounter either extreme of those ranges. It was less than $30.00 and works great. Here is a photo of the device that we use in the kitchen to check temps of cooking oils.

Kitchen-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about an appliance, utensil, or gadget found in a Kitchen during the month of October

  1. Record something about an item found in a Kitchen. Make sure you include a description and its purpose. Try, if possible, to include a photo.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

October 16th-Infrared Thermometer

When we purchased our thermometer, we thought its only use would be in the kitchen for frying foods or checking skillet temps. We have discovered that it is a great tool for other tasks.

Candy and Chocolate Making: It provides precise temperature readings for delicate tasks like melting chocolate or boiling sugar, where accuracy is crucial.

Kitchen Safety and Maintenance: It can test refrigerator, freezer, or oven temperatures to verify appliances are operating safely and efficiently.
