In November 2025, many of us will be taking part in the 30-Day Human Condition Coach4aday Challenge. “Human conditions” can refer to the wide range of physical, mental, emotional, and social experiences that define our lives. Each day we will spotlight or describe those experiences. I am going to use this challenge to dive into a book called “The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows” written by John Koenig. It provides the readers words for feelings or human conditions we might be hard to describe. My condition for today is GHOUGH.

The phrase “When is enough enough?” is a rhetorical question that challenges a person (or society) to consider the point at which continuing to want, tolerate, or pursue something stops being reasonable or healthy. Ghough is that human condition when an individual continues to have an unsatisfied hunger for more.
Human Condition-30 Day Challenge Guidelines
As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about a Human Condition during the month of November.
- Record or Describe a Human Condition. Try, if possible, to provide an example
- Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
- Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge
If you need help in clarifying Human Conditions here are some examples

November 10th-Ghough
When I learned about this word from The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows my thoughts went immediately to the Parable of the Rich Fool found in the Bible. That story points out the dangers of ghough. It teaches that life’s true value doesn’t come from possessions, but from one’s relationship with God or a higher power.
