For the month of August 2024 several of us are going to take on a 30-Day County Coach4aday Challenge. The simple concept is to share a fact about a county in the US. My focus is going to be on North Carolina, and today I am selecting GASTON County.

Gaston County is one of North Carolina ten most populated counties ranking 10th after 2020 census with over 227,000 residents. Map of Gaston County is located below outlined in red.

The county was formed in 1846 during a three-year industrial boom between 1845-1848 when a number of cotton mills were built in the county. For 65 years the county seat was Dallas, NC but in 1911 the county seat became Gastonia. The name Gaston comes from a member of the North Carolina Supreme Court William Gaston.

  1. Each day in August learn something about a county in the United States
  2. Share that fact along with where it is located with others
