Here are three facts about Fluorine.
Most Electronegative Element: Fluorine is the most electronegative element on the periodic table, meaning it has a strong tendency to attract electrons in chemical bonds. This property makes fluorine highly reactive, especially with metals, forming strong bonds and producing compounds like fluorides.
Found in Toothpaste: Fluorine is commonly found in toothpaste in the form of fluoride. Fluoride helps to strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities. It is also added to many public water supplies for the same purpose, contributing to dental health on a large scale.
Highly Reactive and Dangerous: Fluorine gas (F₂) is extremely reactive and toxic. It can react violently with many substances, including glass, metals, and organic matter. Because of its reactivity, fluorine is difficult to handle and is usually stored in specialized containers made of materials that resist its corrosive nature.
