For the month of July 2024 several of us are going to take on a 30-Day Nickname Coach4aday Challenge. The simple concept is to share a nickname and tell a little about who it is associated with and why they got tagged with that moniker. Today I’m going with an actor called “The DUKE”

In September 2023 my wife and I took a trip to the Midwest to visit Iowa and Wisconsin. One of the things we wanted to do was see the Bridges of Madison County in Iowa. That decision led us to Winterset IA the birthplace of John Wayne who was called The Duke.

Nickname 30-Day Challenge Guidelines

Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines.

  1. Each day in July learn something or just appreciate a nickname associated with someone.
  2. Share that name with others
  3. If so inclined use the hash tag #Coach4adayChallenge on social media platforms

July 13th-The Duke

There are lots of fascinating things to learn about John Wayne. First is that being John Wayne is not his birthname. He was born Marion Robert Morrison.

In the 20th Century there was no genre more popular than Western films. The biggest star was John Wayne. In fact, from 1926 to 1976 he appeared in 170 films-click this link for the list.
