In July 2025, many of us are taking part in the 30-Day “Tool” Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, the challenge encourages participants to share a tool that can help people with productivity, organization, and communication. Tools are essential in many occupations and hobbies. Today my choice is going to be a tool used by plumbers called a DRAIN AUGER.

A drain auger, also known as a plumbing snake, is a tool used to clear clogs and blockages from pipes and drains by extending a flexible, coiled metal cable into the line to break up or retrieve the obstruction. If you have young children at home, there’s a good chance that at some point a small object may get tossed into the toilet, leading to drainage problems that a drain auger can help resolve.
Tool-30 Day Challenge Guidelines
As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about a tool in July.
- Record something about a particular tool. It can be physical or digital. It may also be something that has been replaced with advanced technology.
- Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
- Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge
July 15-Drain Auger
Like many tools the drain auger has different models and sizes. Each one is better equipped for certain jobs than others. Some people in age group may remember 1970 TV commercials for Roto-Rooter.
Watch this video to see how drain augers work with a great tip on using it on bathtubs with an overflow valve.
