In September 2025, many of us will be taking part in the 30-Day Monuments Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will spotlight one of the nearly 50,000 National Monuments or Memorials across the United States. In addition, we’ll feature a wide range of other tributes—from statues honoring heroes and athletes to memorials recognizing outstanding citizens and many other categories. Today the post is on a Bronze Statue located in Sevierville TN dedicated to DOLLY PARTON.

On the lawn of the Sevier County TN Courthouse sits a statue of Dolly Parton perched on a boulder strumming a guitar. The sculpture was created by artist Jim Gray and unveiled in 1987. Parton was born in 1946 in a log cabin just outside of Sevierville TN. Her home is the location of Dollywood Theme Park which is a big attraction for those visiting the Great Smoky National Park.

September 22-Dolly Parton
Despite all the fame Dolly Parton has earned as a musician, recording artist, businesswoman, and actress, her greatest legacy may well be her philanthropy.
She founded the Imagination Library in 1995 in her home county of Sevier County, Tennessee. She was inspired by her father’s struggles with illiteracy and wanted to ensure that all children, regardless of family income, would grow up with access to books. The program began by mailing one free, age-appropriate book each month to every child in the county from birth to age five, and its success quickly led to national and then international expansion.
Proud that the program exists in Robeson County (NC) and also Dillon County (SC) thanks to the Lumber River United Way. That was a dream of Sandra Oliver when she was the Executive Director.
