For the month of October 2024 several of us are participating in the 30-Day World Series Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we attempt to learn something about some aspect of the World Series. Today I am focusing on DEION Sanders who played in the 1992 World Series.
What makes Deion “Prime Time” Sanders‘s legacy so powerful is he is the only athlete to ever play in both the World Series and Super Bowl. He played for the Atlanta Braves in the 1992 World Series and won Super Bowl rings with the San Francisco 49er’s in 1994 and the Dallas Cowboys in 1995.
World Series 30-Day Challenge Guidelines
Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines.
- Each day in October 2024 write about the World Series
- Share at least one fact about the event or the participants.

October 20th-Deion
The list of amazing athletic feats by Deion Sanders is long. Here are some from the 1992 World Series.
Two-Sport Star: In 1992, Deion Sanders was in the rare position of playing both professional baseball and football at an elite level. During the 1992 World Series, he was an outfielder for the Atlanta Braves while also playing cornerback for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Sanders juggled both sports during the same season, a feat few athletes have ever accomplished. In fact, during the MLB playoff on October 11, 1992, he played a game for both teams on the same day
Exceptional World Series Performance: Despite playing with a foot injury, Sanders had an outstanding performance in the 1992 World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. He batted .533, going 8-for-15 in four games, including two doubles, one triple, and two stolen bases. Sanders’ performance was one of the highlights for the Braves, although they ultimately lost the Series in six games.
Dual-Sport Scheduling Conflict: During the World Series, Sanders famously managed to participate in both NFL and MLB games in the same week. On October 18, 1992, he flew to Miami to play for the Falcons in an NFL game before returning to the Braves for Game 5 of the World Series the next day. This added to Sanders’ reputation as one of the greatest two-sport athletes in history.
