In October 2025, many of us will be taking part in the 30-Day Kitchen Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will spotlight an appliance, utensil, or gadget found in a commercial or residential kitchen. The tools and devices used to prepare and cook food is quite extensive and this month we will take a look at both the sublime and ridiculous. My post today is focused on CAST IRON Cookware.

There are items that can be passed down from generation to generation that have a genesis in the kitchen. Recipes are certainly one of those but so is cast iron cookware. My wife uses a very heavy frying pan depicted below that she got from her grandmother. It is over 75 years old and has been utilized by three generations of Gibsons.

October 13-Cast Iron
Our cast iron frying pans gets utilized two to three times a week. One of my daughters-in-law gets ecstatic when it filled with oil and gets to be used to fry chicken.
What allows cast iron cookware to be so valuable is its durability and ability to retain and evenly distribute heat, making it ideal for searing, frying, and baking. When properly seasoned, it develops a natural nonstick surface that enhances flavor and improves with age.
Maybe you have some old rusty cast iron pans that you are tempted to discard take a look at this video they can be restored.
