In June 2025, many of us are taking part in the 30-Day “On This Date” Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, the challenge encourages participants to engage in a meaningful or enjoyable activity inspired by a historical event, anniversary, or personal memory tied to that specific date. My personal memory is of songs that were hits on CASH BOX in June 1975.

Cash Box Magazine published a weekly record ranking of the top singles in the United States. It used record sales and airplay to determine the rankings. Today I examine my favorite #1 song from June 1975.

On This Date-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to think about the history of each day in June.

  1. Record something about what happened on this date. It can be an event, memory, or anniversary.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

June 7-Cash Box

The summer of 1975 was special for me because I had graduated from college and spent a lot of time in a car. In the 1960’s and 1970’s there were two big rankings for music Billboard and Cash Box.

Cash Box served as a key competitor to Billboard and was especially influential in the mid-20th century for its music charts. Known for its comprehensive industry coverage, it played a vital role in shaping the commercial music landscape during its peak years.

In June 1975 four different songs came in #1 on weekly rankings. Those four were:

  1. Before The Next Tear Drop Falls-Freddy Fender
  2. Thank God I’m A Country Boy-John Denver
  3. When Will I Be Loved-Linda Ronstadt
  4. Love Will Keep Us Together-Captain and Tennile

My favorite was #3 by Linda Ronstadt

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
