March 2026 marks the 75th consecutive month that Jeff Neelon, Jaclyn Donovan, and I have completed a 30-Day Coach4aday Challenge. For this milestone month, we’ve chosen to focus on teaching. Each day for 30 days, we will share one lesson, principle, or insight gained from the previous 74 challenges—calling it the 30-Day Coach4aday Teach It Challenge. For each of us we believe that our own personal growth increases when we share it. Today it is one of the many lessons I learned from reading the BIBLE.

On January 1, 2019, I began a daily habit of reading one chapter of the Bible each morning. My goal was to read it from cover to cover. I started with the New Testament and then moved to the Old Testament. It took me almost two years but in December 2020 I accomplished the goal by having a system/habit in place. The lesson I want to share from the Bible is about staying in our lane.

“Teach It” 30 Day Challenge Guidelines

In past challenges, we invited others to join us, though participation has been limited. This month, the three of us will return to January 2020—the very beginning—and move forward to the present, reflecting along the way and sharing a life lesson or insight from any month with one another.

Here is how we will do it.

  1. Identify the principle, insight, or lesson from a previous 30-Day Challenge-identify the Challenge also.
  2. Teach that lesson to each of us.
  3. Share the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

Day 3-Bible Lesson

In life, we often find ourselves longing to pursue something different, even when it goes against our true calling. One reading back in August 2020 from I Chronicles 17:1-6 struck me about God reminding us to stay in our lane.

God spoke to David through the prophet Nathan about his plan and told him, “Do not build the Temple—that is not your assignment. I have called you to lead the people of Israel.

We all face the temptation to step outside our lane, and too often we give in. It’s a difficult lesson to accept, especially as success grows and new opportunities present themselves.

But we must remain anchored in our unique purpose. Staying aligned with that calling means having the discipline and humility to remain in our lane.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
