Bel-Air

Last week I had an experience with Bel-Air.

Prior to my experience I thought of Bel-Air in a number of different ways including a place full of sophisticated people. I am referring to the neighborhood in LA called BEL-AIR.

Hey Renee Zellweger bought a place in Bel Air in 2002. Some other people who have called Bel Air home include Nicholas Cage, Michael Caine, Clint Eastwood, and Pierce Brosnan. At one time Elizabeth Taylor lived there.

I also think of Bel Air as an iconic automobile from my days as a young boy riding with my dad in his 1956 black Bel-Air.

It looked something like the car below.

I think many people when they hear Bel-Air think of the 1990-96 TV show Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starring Will Smith.

Yet none of those memories or images was part of my experience with Bel-Air MD on Sunday June 23rd. I was driving from Malvern PA to North Carolina and stopped for breakfast in Bel-Air.

BK receipt

I encountered three of the most demanding fast food customers in a fast food restaurant in this town. It all took place at 9:05 a.m. in a Burger King.

For the record when we entered there were two customers dining and two customers in front of us ordering. Then two more customers were behind us. The place was not packed but here is what I overheard from three of the most outrageous customers spending less than $5.00 each.

  • Customer #1 when the polite cashier came to the registrar the customer told him to enter his order on the registrar as #6357. The cashier like me was confused. The elderly man said you can just enter my order as #6357 it will know exactly what my order is. Now I know you can have it your way at BK but ordering a #6347 might be stretching that promise.  The cashier as polite as possible said I can’t enter your order that way can you tell me what you want. The customer gave him a look like he was a completely incompetent and proceeded to order his food line by line in a gruff and impatient manner. Give props to the cashier for being professional and holding the line on entering a #6347 despite the condescending attitude .
  • Customer #2-he was behind me and ordered ONE bacon, egg and cheese croissant with a specific demand that the CHEESE be melted in between the egg and bacon. He said if it is not in the middle I want a refund.
  • Customer #3-He came in ordered a decaf coffee but wanted assurances that it was fresh brewed. The cashier assured him it had just been brewed but he hassled him on the timing and freshness.

Not sure what was going on in Bel-Air MD that morning but I really do think that those 3 customers viewed themselves as royalty. As they approached the cashier they were humming the lyrics below in there heads.

I looked at my kingdom
I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the Prince of the BK in Bel Air

To management of the BK in Bel-Air MD give that cashier a raise.
