In September 2025, many of us will be taking part in the 30-Day Monuments Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will spotlight one of the nearly 50,000 National Monuments or Memorials across the United States. In addition, we’ll feature a wide range of other tributes—from statues honoring heroes and athletes to memorials recognizing outstanding citizens and many other categories. Today the post is on the 21st President of the United States CHESTER A ARTHUR.

There have only been two US Presidents inaugurated in New York City and Chester A Arthur is one of them. The other was George Washington in 1789 when New York was the Capitol. That goes to reason why there is a statue of Arthur is located in New York City near Madison Square Park near the 26th Street Entrance. Arthur was the Vice-President when James A Garfield was assassinated.

September 17-Chester A Arthur

Sometimes I stumble across a historical nugget about the people that have had a statue or monument erected in their honor. That is the case with President Arthur before he moved into the White House he had Louis Comfort Tiffany redesign the State Rooms. At the time Arthur was a widow since his wife Nell had died in 1880 at the age of 42.

Arthur was considered a man of great taste in clothing earning him the nickname “Elegant Arthur” and was reported to own 80 pair of pants.
