Today’s Coach4aday post will be short, and it is about a medical APPOINTMENT.

Sometimes the most mundane decisions in life can turn into a comical moment because of gaps in communication.

In Home Health Appointment

When you turn 65 there are a few things that begin to happen that may become irritating. One is the persistence of Robo Calls that I and many others receive daily. On a daily basis at this time of year I am going to be reminded about my extended car warranty and signing up for Medicare Advantage.

Having health insurance is a blessing and my provider Humana is quite persistent in frequently reminding me of all sorts of health-related matters. Calls will be about renewing a prescription and scheduling a home health assessment are two popular ones.

Since June Humana has been calling me to attempt to schedule one of those Home Health Screenings. It involves a provider coming to you and performing some foundational assessments like blood pressure, medications, updating vaccines, and wellbeing questioning. For the past five months I have asked them to call back later. Well two weeks ago walking off the golf course after a less than stellar round I answered the phone and a comedy conversation ensued.

Communication breakdown leads to Comedy

The voice on the other end of the call was polite and calm but certainly had a foreign accent. She had gotten me to answer the phone and agree to the In-Home Health Screening and I just wanted to get the time and date. My patience was not at an all-time high. She told me the appointment would be on Wednesday at 9:45 AM.

She politely asked me to grab a pen and paper so I could record the appointment. That request had me seething because I was being profiled as a forgetful senior.

I repeated forcefully that “the appointment is tomorrow which was a Wednesday at 9:45 AM

She stated, “yes you will see Tuesday on Wednesday at 9:45 AM.

Hearing Tuesday had me really confused and I said Tomorrow is not Tuesday it is Wednesday -I was being argumentative

She stated Yes you will meet Tuesday tomorrow do you understand?

I replied even further exasperated- “let’s start over why you are saying Tuesday when tomorrow is Wednesday”

She slowly said “Tomorrow is Wednesday and you will meet your provider whose name is Tuesday at 9:45 AM

I laughed and said “so I’m meeting Tuesday on Wednesday what is hard about remembering that
