For October 2023, I am participating in the “30-Day 30 Words Coach4aday Challenge” where the topic today is on ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.

October 27th Topic

At some stage in life, many lucky individuals experience receiving some form of special recognition or professional accolade. That will occur for me this evening with induction into an Athletic Hall of Fame. It’s humbling because it would not have been possible without a bevy of gifted and influential student-athletes, coaches, staff, colleagues, friends, and family all supporting that journey.

What is challenging is making sure I just don’t appreciate that special group, but I have to acknowledge them. There is a difference. Acknowledgement is deeper than just appreciation.

Acknowledging someone means recognizing not only their contributions to me but also their broader impact on the world and their positive influence. Expressing gratitude and recognition should involve communicating this to others not just thinking about it.

This post is dedicated to all who have helped me along the way.

What is achieved comes from the collective gifts of others.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
