October 2026 several of us are going to take on the 30-Day Celebrity Alma Mater Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will identify a celebrity and share where they attended college. For Day 9 it is on ZIG ZIGLAR.

It amazes me how some individuals go on to achieve extraordinary success despite growing up in difficult circumstances. One example is a man born prematurely named Hilary Hinton Ziglar. He was the 10th of 12 children, and when he was just six years old, his father died. Two days later, his youngest sister also passed away. Despite these heartbreaking beginnings, he went on to become one of America’s most recognized motivational speakers and the author of more than 30 books. Most of us know him simply as Zig Ziglar. Personally, I borrowed one of Zig’s favorite responses when people asked how he was doing. Now, when someone asks me the same question, I often reply with Zig’s line: “I’m fabulous, but working on improving!”
Ziglar did not graduate from college but attended University of South Carolina from 1943-45 with the Navy V-12 Navy College Training Program. After WW II he briefly returned to college but set out on a career in sales.
