August 2026 several of us are going to take on the 30-Day Plugged in Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, we will feature an item from home or office that requires being plugged into a source of electricity to operate. We will reflect on how it makes life easier. For Day 14 it is the WASHING MACHINE.

Laundry Day is often met with a certain sense of dread in many households today. If we’re honest, however, the advent of the electric washing machine has made this chore far less labor-intensive. Its invention cannot be credited to a single person, but Alva J. Fisher played an important role in its evolution. In 1910, he is credited with developing the Thor, one of the first commercially successful electric washing machines.
