May 2026 the 30-Day Coach4aday Challenge will feature travel pictures. It is a simple daily activity of posting a photo of a place that you have traveled to or a location you plan to visit. Today it is the view of PILOT MOUNTAIN driving north on US 52 outside of Winston-Salem NC.

This month marks the 77th consecutive month that friends Jeff Neelon and Jaclyn Donovan have taken on some sort of challenge. For May 2026 participants simply commit to taking or sharing one travel-themed photo each day for 30 days. Each photo just needs to be accompanied by a simple descriptor. Day 14-Pilot Mountain

During the 8 seasons the Andy Griffith Show aired there were countless times Mount Pilot was referenced. Mount Pilot was portrayed as the larger neighboring city located a short drive from Mayberry. It was where characters often went for shopping, entertainment, medical specialists, or “big city” experiences that were not available in the slower-paced small town of Mayberry.

North Carolinians know that references to Mount Pilot was about Pilot Mountain.

Back in 2019 before Covid, I was driving on US 52 North and snapped the photo below.
