In January 2026, many of us will take part in the 30-Day Label Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will share a label from a food product and share info about one of the ingredients. The goal is simple—read food labels, research unfamiliar ingredients, and become more intentional about what you’re putting into your body, building awareness that can lead to healthier, more mindful eating. Today my post is on CALCIUM DISODIUM.

Over the past four weeks Americans have watched a number of college football bowl games including the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. Bowl Games look for unique ways to tie in the sponsor’s brand with the game. For this contest the winning coach gets a “mayo bath”. One of the ingredients in this brand of mayonnaise he gets slobbered with is Calcium Disodium
Label-30 Day Challenge Guidelines
As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing an ingredient from a food label during the month of January.
- Locate a label on a food product and research an ingredient you might not be familiar with.
- Share with a challenge partner if you have one what that ingredient is.
- Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge
January 7th-Calcium Disodium
Calcium disodium EDTA is added to mayonnaise in very small amounts to bind metal ions that can cause oxidation, helping prevent rancidity and extend shelf life. It does not affect flavor or texture and is considered safe for consumption at the levels used in foods.
Here is a video of the 2026 “mayo bath” after Wake Forest defeated Mississippi State on January 2nd.
