In December 2025, many of us will take part in the 30-Day Rewind Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, we’ll rewind, review, reflect or—in my case—re-blog one of my nearly 4,000 posts that highlight experiences shaping us into better versions of ourselves. If you don’t have a blog, your reflections can come from a journal or even a meaningful memory tied to something learned, a goal reached, or a personal effort to improve. These daily habits of looking back will serve as a powerful springboard for taking on a new and ambitious challenge in 2026. Today my rewind is on GALVANIZED.

Recently one of my clients shared with me the frustration of advising college students who encounter a difficulty academically and fail to persist. I shared with him an analogy in one of my blog posts from November 21, 2019, about the importance of steel being galvanized. The students he was describing were not wearing out as much as their academic spirit was corroding. They needed a strategy to have their persistence protected from disappointments and setbacks.

Rewind-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing a rewind, review, or reflection during the month of December

  1. Rewind, review, or reflect on a past effort to improve, a lesson you learned, or a goal you accomplished.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

December 5th-Galvanized

It is impossible to go thru life without pain or discomfort. To be honest we cannot really grow unless we are uncomfortable. It is only by experiencing pain that we have the opportunity to GALVANIZE our resolve to change. So, in life pain and discomfort can be our zinc if we approach it with the right choice.

Here is a video by Suleika Jaouad on how she became galvanized in her fight against leukemia. Love her quote

The choice to let the worst thing that ever happened to you hold you hostage or find a way forward“-When we make that choice, we galvanize ourselves.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
