In October 2025, many of us will be taking part in the 30-Day Kitchen Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will spotlight an appliance, utensil, or gadget found in a commercial or residential kitchen. The tools and devices used to prepare and cook food is quite extensive and this month we will take a look at both the sublime and ridiculous. My post today is focused on a JUNK DRAWER.

These blog posts can reveal myths about your personality. Despite believing I am organized our kitchen has a repository called the “Junk Drawer“. Recently my wife did a fantastic job of decluttering this space, but it still is full of occasionally used objects including writing utensils, markers, glue, rulers, batteries, and a few tools.

Kitchen-30 Day Challenge Guidelines

As with previous challenges, participants are encouraged to adapt the guidelines to fit their own circumstances. If you can, commit to sharing something about an appliance, utensil, or gadget found in a Kitchen during the month of October

  1. Record something about an item found in a Kitchen. Make sure you include a description and its purpose. Try, if possible, to include a photo.
  2. Share with a challenge partner if you have one.
  3. Join the conversation by posting on social media with the hashtag #Coach4adayChallenge

October 7-Junk Drawer

Here is some of the strategies my wife used to declutter our space.

Here are a few effective strategies to declutter a junk drawer:

  1. Empty it completely – Take everything out so you can see what you actually have.
  2. Sort and group items – Put similar things together (batteries, tools, pens, etc.) and toss duplicates or broken items.
  3. Clean the drawer – Wipe out crumbs, dust, or old liners before putting anything back.
  4. Use dividers or small containers – Separate categories so items stay organized instead of jumbling together again.
  5. Keep only what you use – If something hasn’t been touched in a year or doesn’t belong in the kitchen, find it a new home or toss it.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
