This February 2025, several of us are participating in the 30-Day Philosophy Coach4aday Challenge. Each day, we choose a quote or concept from a philosopher, past or present, and share it with others. Participating in this activity is actually sharing wisdom with others. My philosopher choice today is named CONFUCIUS.

My instincts are telling me that many people have only read about Confucius via fortune cookies. The irony is that the cookie was brought to America by Japanese immigrants and grew in popularity in America. What are embedded on those white strips of paper inside the cookie are often the philosophers’ sayings.

Confucius shaped East Asian philosophy, politics, and culture by emphasizing virtue, social harmony, and filial piety, principles that influenced governments for centuries through Confucianism. His teachings became the foundation of China’s civil service system, education, and moral values, deeply impacting societies beyond China, including Korea, Japan, and Vietnam.
Philosophy 30-Day Challenge Guidelines
Like previous challenges there are no hard and fast rules to participate. There are a few suggested guidelines
- Identify your choice of philosopher, and, if necessary, offer up a brief bio on that individual.
- If you need help here is a link to some famous philosophers
- Provide the quote or concept that is attributed to this philosopher.
- If sharing with others use the #Coach4adayChallenge
February 23rd Philosopher–Confucius
One aspect of Confucius life was he lived in a time of social hierarchy. That system eventually led him to seek exile and attempt to find a ruler who would utilize his gifts of advice and wisdom. His book the Analects is the most significant collection of Confucius’ teachings, preserving his thoughts on ethics, governance, and personal virtue through dialogues with his disciples.
My source for quotes on Confucius comes from Goodreads
“If you make a mistake and do not correct it, this is called a mistake.”
― Confucius
If your plan is for one year plant rice. If your plan is for ten years plant trees. If your plan is for one hundred years educate children.
