TOMMY ROCK is an iconic place on the campus of UNC Pembroke.

College campuses often have places that graduates and visitors often look to take photos. Often times that location is a statue and that is the case at UNCP. A bronze replica of a red-tailed hawk sits on top of a gigantic granite boulder. UNCP mascot is the red-tailed hawk.

This past month I was asked to tell the story of the statue. The location is in front of the Chavis University Center (UC) and it is called TOMMY ROCK. It was a gift from the Senior Class of 1999 that I got to facilitate its creation with a lot of help and support from many.

I was flattered to have that story profiled in the alumni magazine called UNCP Today. As a blogger I have written many posts but this is my first magazine contribution. The history is all found below in the story below.
