June 8th Flag of the Day

Today’s entry is based on a design created in 1848 and consists of two blue stripes, two white stripes, and a central red stripe which is twice as wide as each of the other four.

  1. Oldest Central American Flag: This flag is one of the oldest continuously used national flags in Central America. It has remained unchanged in its basic design since it was first officially adopted on November 27, 1906.
  2. Emblem on the Flag: The flag features the national coat of arms in the center of the white stripe. The coat of arms consists of three volcanoes (representing the three mountain ranges), a rising sun (symbolizing prosperity), and two ships (symbolizing the country’s geographical position between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea).
  3. Flag Day: This country celebrates Flag Day (Día de la Bandera) on September 29th each year.
