October 2026 several of us are going to take on the 30-Day Celebrity Alma Mater Coach4aday Challenge. Each day we will identify a celebrity and share where they attended college. For Day 17 it is on TOM BROKAW.

Watching nightly news on America’s three big networks in the 1980’s and 1990’s featured Peter Jennings on ABC, Dan Rather on CBS, and Tom Brokaw on NBC. Brokaw authored the bestselling book The Greatest Generation (1998), which celebrates the Americans who grew up during the Great Depression and served during World War II.

Since Brokaw grew up in South Dakota I selected him to profile. He went to high school in Yankton SD and after graduating enrolled at the University of Iowa for a year. In his own admission beer and girls was his focus during his freshman year in Iowa City. After that misstep he enrolled at University of South Dakota where he actually graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
