#Arcade September 20
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
August 2026 several of us are going to take on theĀ 30-Day Architectural Coach4aday ChallengeĀ each day, we will define an architectural term and provide examples of where it is located. This challenge will let observation, travel, history, and photography all intersect. For Day 20 it is ARCADE.

When the term arcade is mentioned in architecture one of the common examples is the Colosseum in Rome. Simply put it is a series of arches.

30-Day Architectural Challenge Guidelines
If you have ever watched Seinfeld, you know that George Constanza always wanted to pretend to be an architect.

Well, this monthās challenge letās all of us that are not architects learn a little more about their language. To do that we have a simple challenge.
Every day weāll learn one architectural term. Your challenge is to find an exampleāpreferably one youāve actually seenāand share a photograph, location and brief explanation.
Day 20-Arcade
In 2025 my wife and I spent 5 days in Cleveland OH. One of the stops we made on our way to watch the Cleveland Indians was to tour The Arcade. This was America’s first shopping mall built in the 1890’s.
Here is a photo we took-lots of great photos at this link.
