August 2026 several of us are going to take on theĀ 30-Day Architectural Coach4aday ChallengeĀ each day, we will define an architectural term and provide examples of where it is located. This challenge will let observation, travel, history, and photography all intersect. For Day 20 it is ARCADE.

When the term arcade is mentioned in architecture one of the common examples is the Colosseum in Rome. Simply put it is a series of arches.

30-Day Architectural Challenge Guidelines

If you have ever watched Seinfeld, you know that George Constanza always wanted to pretend to be an architect.

Well, this month’s challenge let’s all of us that are not architects learn a little more about their language. To do that we have a simple challenge.

Every day we’ll learn one architectural term. Your challenge is to find an example—preferably one you’ve actually seen—and share a photograph, location and brief explanation.

Day 20-Arcade

In 2025 my wife and I spent 5 days in Cleveland OH. One of the stops we made on our way to watch the Cleveland Indians was to tour The Arcade. This was America’s first shopping mall built in the 1890’s.

Here is a photo we took-lots of great photos at this link.

Coach4aday

My purpose in life is to coach. I am a former collegiate basketball coach, director of athletics, and chief of staff. I worked at four NCAA Division I & II universities during my career. At each campus I learned timeless lessons on teamwork and leadership. Today my passion is coaching others on what it takes to lead, serve, and succeed.
