Today is Friday the 13th. I really believe I am going to get lucky today.

Many people believe only unlucky events will occur in their life on Friday the 13th. Well depending on your perspective there have been some pretty amazing events occur on this day. If you are afraid of Friday the 13th it is called paraskevidekatriaphobia (30 Day Vocabulary Challenge)

After today there will be 50 more Friday the 13ths taking place over the next thirty years. It works out to about two a year. Not everything that takes place on this date is always unlucky. In fact it is kind of depressing to me to think some days should just be thrown away.

Here are some Friday the 13th events that worked out well.

When we start our day out with a case of paraskevidekatriaphobia we begin looking for anything that will confirm our unlucky bias. Research has shown that confirmation bias (like Friday the 13th is an unlucky day) results in humans cherry-picking events that supports one’s belief.

Psychologist Richard Wiseman did a study on how lucky or unlucky people are in life.

Dr. Wiseman found that nearly 40% of what we think is pure chance is actually defined by the way that we think. Our attitude on what today will bring is very important

So this Friday the 13th decide to notice and act upon any lucky opportunity that comes your way. That’s what I will be doing.
